Teach me all you know
my son said to me one day
as I tucked him in
That won't take too long
I replied, his eager eyes
staring at my soul
I can be like you
he said, pulling up the sheet
you need higher goals
I flippantly said
and he flashed a wise smile
as the room went dark
and the door was shut
and my life flashed before me
well, he could do worse
Wow, that was awesome! You have the perspective of writing from the Father- son point of view, it was quite lovely.
ReplyDeleteThat is fabulous, Jim! Really well done :)
ReplyDeleteAh, the son adores his father and vice versa. Nice.
ReplyDeleteThis was truly amazing! Great writing!
ReplyDeleteJM
That must be a great feeling!
ReplyDeleteI like your father/son interchange here.
ReplyDeleteReminds me of 'Teach your children well, thier father's Hell' and 'Cats in the craddle.' The latter's key line is "I'm gonna be like you dad You know I'm gonna be like you".
..
I had to see the Jim Hawley, I hope I didn't steal your moniker here, 'Jim.'

i love this one! it's really nice to read this week's haiku theme from a dad's point of view.
